Beauty in the mundane

For some reason, everything is very vivid to me today. Not sure why, it being a normal Tuesday and nothing spectacular happening in my life right now. But I noticed that everything I've eaten so far tastes very rich and flavorful. My coffee was extra creamy, and the brew lingered on my tongue after every sip. My hash browns were extra crunchy and salty, and even my cereal this morning was sweet and delicate and crispy, with the milk enveloping the mix of grains in a smooth white blanket.

The intensity hasn't been limited to the palate, however. For instance, I just threw on an average outfit today, complete with flip flops and jeans, but Pete seemed especially entranced by my appearance (must be half asleep!). Pete, of course, looked handsome as always. There were several misty lowlands along our route to work, and each one was more breathtaking than the previous. The sun was gloriously rising, slicing through the thick fog, and my mouth hung open at the stunning vision before me. I wished I had a camera with me so I could snap a photo or two, but it was not meant to be. The fact that I was doing 50 mph in rush hour traffic probably would have stifled my attempts at photography too.

And even coming in to work, which, I know, is bearly tolerable on the best of days, seemed a sun kissed and bright activity. My desk was bathed in shifting shadows and beams of light, and the pink daisies scattered across it gave me a silent but cheerful greeting as I started up my computer. Even the traffic outside was beautiful, with the sun streaming through the trees and the cars quietly whisking to and fro. The leaves on the trees outside my window were backlit and gleaming, and the plants on my sill looked perky and green like never before.

So what do I attribute this to? I don't even know where to begin. But I do know that I will sit back, enjoy the sensations I'm experiencing, perhaps try to take a picture or two, and hope that I remember this day for years to come. What a blessing.
