Happy birthday, dad!

My dad is 65 today. I took him out for lunch, and before that, while he was at my house, he planted the ginkgo trees we used for our wedding ceremony (in place of our unity candles). Spanky and Adora frolicked in the yard while he looked around at our trees (he's a certified arborist) and I watched from the kitchen window while washing dishes. It was such a happy afternoon, and I was glad I had the opportunity to spend time with him.

He feels weird about being 65, but has such a rosy outlook on life that he's able to get past it. His upbeat spirit has been rubbing off on me lately, which has been a very good thing. At lunch we commiserated about previous horrid jobs (mine newly ended) and how life is too short to be miserable for so long and for so little. We parted ways soon after lunch, but I'm sure we'll meet up again for another meal.

So happy birthday to the most laid back, kind, and interesting guy in the world!

I never heard the word used this way until today - twice. Arborist.

I listened to martha stewart radio today and the garden person was advising someone to call a good arborist.

Funny...well, that would certainly sum up my dad, he's definitely a good arborist :)
