Pretty new dresses from Anthopologie, and...oops!

I just got the new Anthropologie catalog the other day, and as always, I love the whole look of the "story" they staged to show the clothes (and of course the clothes themselves). I wanted to show you some nice pictures from the catalog, but it's not even posted on their site yet! Strangely enough, they have pix for the individual dresses posted (under the "On the model" view) so I was able to show you actual pix from the catalog, although they're somewhat tiny. I really like the simple, slightly mod look of some of the dresses, with touches of ruffles, flowers, and pops of color.

Most of these I couldn't wear—well, the shifts anyhow (hello, hips!) but I certainly appreciate their aesthetic. And patterned coats can look quite lovely over dresses of another hue and design, don't you think?

I like this mix of patterns and textures, which is something I'm still working on trying in my own wardrobe, although I sometimes do this accidentally.

Besides all the pretty clothes, shoes, and accessories in the catalog, lots of home furnishings were featured. And I discovered that this image (shown below) is in the catalog, but flipped, yet the book on the table wasn't Photoshopped or anything to fix the backwards title! (The title is "Russia.") I've seen this once before in another catalog, and it's finding little mistakes like this that delights the proofreader in me.

Anyhow, if you got the catalog in the mail, check it out. Otherwise take a look at the website, and perhaps draw some inspiration from their current selection. I could never afford their clothes, unless on sale or clearance, but that doesn't mean I can't use them to put together a similar look on my own from thrift stores and the like.

(Late) outfit round up

Just thought I'd share my look this week. Sometimes I can't wait to talk fashion and show people what I'm into, and other times I'd rather just schlepp to work in a potato sack (they look comfy but itchy). Since I was sick last week and didn't do too much fun outfit stuff, I thought I'd be more fun and colorful this week. So here goes...

Monday's look:

Plaid wool mini from Goodwill (sorry about my booty shot), brown belt from Target, cream turtleneck from Kohl's, green tights from Target, new brown Chilis boots from Marshall's, gold earrings from Target

Tuesday's look:

Black sweater dress from Target, black shrug from Old Navy, blue tights from Kohl's, Steve Madden black patent leather mary janes from Piperlime, blue and white glass necklace from Shoozles (Etsy), white earrings from Target

Today's look:

Gray argyle sweater from JCPenney, Levi's 515s from JCPenney, argyle flats from American Eagle for Payless, white earrings from Target

I'mot sure that you can see the entire ensembles in these pix, but there you have it. As you can see, I have been busy and unable to offer quality posts this week. I'm going to be cooking up a storm tonight but I plan to blog, blog away while the stuff cooks.

What have you been wearing lately? I'd love to see pix, or hear all about it. I'm always inspired by what other people do, too. Especially people like Georgia, who is one of the most stylish people I know. She "owns" her outfits, as she advised me to do, and I really admire that in her. I am a wimp and will concede to people's comments and insults, and I tend to throw creativity and color out the window sometimes in favor of blending in. But not Georgia! She is truly a unique and interesting person.

Anyhow, hope you're having a great day, and are going to spend some quality time with friends and family tomorrow eating some good food!

The LBD, glammed up

I love the selection of little black dresses from Express. I must admit, they really strike my fancy with the way they shimmer, slink, and float about. I'm a sucker for feathers and sequins, and these dresses offer the glam girly detailing I adore. It's nice to have an alternative to the tried and true, isn't it?

Yellow fever

I've recently noticed during my travels in shopping that yellow is really big this season. Everything from lemon to mustard seems to be popping up everywhere. It's an excellent way to add a dash of bright color to a typically subdued fall and winter color palette. My favorite is the yellow flower ring from Urban Outfitters, but I'm also loving the little jackets I've been seeing. (There's a cute little cropped jacket at Target that I could not find online, but I saw it in person today—go check it out!)

Use this sunshine-y hue sparingly, however. You don't want to burn the retinas out of anyone's eyes with so much intense color by dressing head to toe in yellow. A little dab'll do ya.

(dress, shoes, ring, jacket, clutch)

(Old Navy's site is currently under construction, so sweater could not be linked)

Anthropologie dresses on eBay

Oh good God, I was just browsing eBay to check out the latest vintage tea cup offerings and discovered they're promoting an Anthropologie dress auction. How convenient it's payday tomorrow.... The prices are pretty good, so check it out.
